COVID-19 Updates and Resources
As you may have already heard, beginning on Monday Mayor Lightfoot and Commissioner of Health for the City of Chicago, Dr. Arwady are advising all residents of Chicago to stay at home in response to the rapid rise of COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations in the city.
Takeaways from the election
It's over. Feels good to say.
Actually, it's not totally over — there are hundreds of thousands of mail-in ballots still to be counted here in Cook County. But by and large, the story of this election has been written. I wanted to share a few reflections on what we saw.

How to Vote Safely and Securely This Fall
The most important election of our lives has begun.
Mail-in voting has been up and running in Illinois for weeks now. And just yesterday, in-person early voting began at the supersite downtown.
2020 Census Update
The census is an incredibly important tool for shaping the future of our communities. Unfortunately, our legislative district has one of the lowest completion rates in Illinois so far. It's time for us to step it up!
Change, Part 3
I know I'm emailing a lot this week. But in these turbulent and scary times, I feel I have an obligation to share with you the changes I'm advocating for to address the crises we're facing.
Yesterday I talked about some of the legislation I'm working on around reforming our policing and criminal justice systems. Today I'd like to talk about a different vision for the future that I believe we should all work toward.
Change, Part 2
Yesterday I shared with you some of the changes I'm fighting for right now. I'm urging the police to de-escalate, to avoid violence. I'm urging the county not to book people in Cook County Jail, and I'm calling on the city to immediately restore services to communities.
Today I'd like to discuss some of the policies we'll need to enact as soon as we're on the other side of these protests.
Change, part 1
It's taken me a moment to gather my thoughts about the protests in our city and around the country. It's a heartbreaking moment. I'm angry, hurt, saddened, and scared, as I'm sure many of you are.
Back to School
Today was the first day of the 2020-2021 school year for CPS students. It's a strange, unprecedented year, and I wish all of our students and families luck.
Help Paying the Rent
Since I joined the legislature six years ago, I've made housing policy a central focus of my agenda.
