✍️📜 My Bills Were Signed Into Law!
Dear Neighbor,
Earlier last month, Governor Pritzker signed several bills into laws. Learn more about my bills that will be effective on January 1, 2025 in the blurbs and graphics below:
🏘️HB 4768: Creates the Landlord Retaliation Act, outlining protections for tenants and prohibited actions by landlords when tenants attempt to resolve an issue.
👪HB 2161: Makes it a civil rights violation for an employer to discriminate or harass based on an employee’s family responsibilities.
📜HB 3763: Allows employees to request bargaining contracts, policies, handbooks, press releases, discrimination reports, or any similar documents about the employee.
🏥SB 3288: Updates the Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities Confidentiality Act (MHDDCA) to facilitate HIPAA-permissible sharing of information for research purposes to, ultimately, better serve patients facing mental health issues.
⚖️SB 426: Grants the Illinois Department of Juvenile Justice (IDJJ) and Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC) the ability to transfer emerging adults who qualify to earn their high school diplomas to a IDJJ facility so that they can receive those education services from IDJJ’s school district.
If you have any specific questions about these or any other bills, please let me know. I’ll also keep you posted as legislative action unfolds in Springfield during veto session in November.
All my best,
Will

17th District Council Vacancy
Per City ordinance, when there is a vacancy on a District Council, the existing District Council members have 30 days to recommend three candidates for the vacancy. The Community Commission for Public Safety and Accountability is then tasked with recommending one candidate to the Mayor.
District Council members will work with community members, the Chicago Police Department’s 17th District and other local community organizations to address safety concerns, develop and implement community policing initiatives, and ensure that policing policies and practices align with community values and priorities. District Councils hold monthly meetings where they engage neighbors on issues of accountability, share public safety information and resources, provide input on CPD policies as they enter public comment review periods, and advocate for evidence based solutions to community safety.
The application process for the 17th District Council is open until September 16. You can find the application here: https://forms.office.com/g/2bSY5wtpPA and a Community Input Survey here: https://forms.office.com/g/fDiKf9xUBD.
