☀️😎 Summer in the 39th District

Dear Neighbor,

In honor of Labor Day, the unofficial end of summer, I wanted to use this week’s newsletter to reflect on where my office has been throughout the season and the district.

In June, we joined Darwin Elementary, Kelvyn Park HS, and the Parent Mentor Program with Palenque LSNA for the ribbon-cutting ceremonies of their Little Libraries. Be sure to visit these Little Libraries throughout the 39th District at Darwin, Goethe, Kelvyn Park HS, Barry, and Monroe!

My office joined the St. Bartholomew community, Northwest Side electeds, and local community organizations for the opening of the shelter for new arrivals and shared a community meal together.

In July, we co-hosted a Town Hall with Rep. Lillian Jimenez and Sen. Omar Aquino to go over the spring legislative session together and engage with neighbors on issues important to our daily lives, like housing, healthcare, and immigration.

Our summer interns joined neighboring offices to canvass our communities about our office’s events and state services.

My office and I co-hosted bingo events with Cook County Commissioner Anthony Quezada at the Senior Suites of Kelvyn Park and Alderwoman Ruth Cruz at St. Ferdinand.

In August, we also had the chance to talk with neighbors by tabling at many other events. Our team joined Onward House and Alderman Felix Cardona at their fun and informative health fairs and enjoyed some local music at Kilbourn Park’’s Summer Concert Series! We shared resources at a Youth Jam event and rode bikes through Belmont-Cragin with Northwest Center.

I joined fellow Northwest Side legislators to discuss what we’ve worked on in Springfield over the spring session at the Puerto Rican Arts Alliance’s Legislative Community Report Forum, and attended an event honoring Phil Jones for his incredible work at Haas Park thanks to Sen. Natalie Toro.

We closed out the summer preparing for the start of classes with our Back to School Fair and Mercado with Hermosa Neighborhood Association at Kelvyn Park. We gathered over 1400 backpacks to give out to neighborhood families!

Thank you for being a part of this incredible summer on the Northwest Side!

All my best,
Will
