CPS Reopening Information

Dear Neighbor,

As you may have heard, CPS is currently planning a return to school for students in pre-K through 8th grade, beginning this January for pre-k and cluster program students.

If you have a child of those ages in Chicago Public Schools, you should have received an 'intent-to-return' form via email or text back in October. This form allows you to choose whether your child will opt for in-person learning or if they will continue learning remotely in the upcoming school year.

This form was sent to families a second time on November 23. If you already completed this form in October, there's no need to re-submit it if your preference hasn't changed. If you never received this form, please call your CPS school right away to note your child's learning preference for the upcoming school year.

Of course, I believe every family will have to make this decision based on your own circumstances. I have serious doubts about the safety of in-person school during the worst COVID outbreak we've had so far. On the other hand, I know how frustrating remote learning has been for so many families. It's not an easy decision either way.

Whatever decision you reach, you'll need to submit your child's 'intent-to-return' form by Monday, December 7. If you have further questions about reopening, we've provided some information from CPS below. And our office is happy to do our best to answer any additional questions you might have.

Sincerely,

- Will
