🎃🍂Check out Where my Office has Been This Fall!

Dear Neighbor,

This autumn has been bustling for my office. In this week’s newsletter, I’d like to share some highlights of our recent activities across the 39th District.

We celebrated the one-year anniversary of Illinois legislation that guarantees plant-based school lunches for students who request them. Chase Elementary School, located in my district, leads the state in sign-ups, showcasing our community’s commitment to children’s health and the environment. For more information about the campaign or to request plant-based meals, parents and students can visit moreplantsonplatesil.com.

I attended Illinois Prison Project’s annual gala and was honored to receive the Visionary of the Year Award, highlighting the vital and collective work being done to end mass incarceration in Illinois and beyond.

We partnered with Alderman Daniel La Spata and Cook County Commissioner Anthony Quezada for a Health Fair at Haas Park. There were free flu vaccines, mental health resources, and a guided walk with a local healthcare provider to discuss everyday healthy habits.

We joined Advocate Health and other local healthcare providers for a Love Asset Mapping and Planning Workshop to connect with the Avondale community on what is flourishing and what needs tending to in our neighborhoods.

We also joined Fabric Health for their first event in Chicago at Belmont Cragin’s WashTime Laundry on Fullerton! Fabric Health meets folks at local laundromats to provide free resources like healthcare insurance help, SNAP and LIHEAP program signups, and primary care provider navigation, all while offering literacy programming for kids and free washes on a first come, first served basis.

My office joined Commissioner Quezada at a property reassessment appeals worship for Jefferson Township. The deadline to file appeals is November 13. Residents can file an appeal online here or at the Cook County Assessor’s offices in Skokie and Downtown. You can schedule appointments here. The Assessor’s office currently has openings from 9am to 3:45pm Monday – Friday for the next few weeks.

Last weekend, we joined Alderwoman Ruth Cruz, Sen. Omar Aquino, and Rep. Eva-Dina Delgado for Trunk-or-Treat in the 30th Ward and Unity Park Advisory Council for their annual Pumpkinfest, where we passed out candy and spread the word about our upcoming fall family health fest. I also had the honor of leading the costume parade and voting for Participatory Budgeting projects as a 35th ward resident.

Wishing everyone a safe and spooky Halloween!

Will
