Omicron boosters are here đź‘Ź

I’m writing today to let you know there’s a new COVID-19 booster shot available in Chicago, and it offers much stronger protection against the most common variants of COVID-19.

This new booster, known as the “bivalent booster” is a big deal for a number of reasons. It was made specifically to provide protection against the Omicron sub-variants of COVID-19, which make up 99.9% of recent confirmed cases in the city of Chicago. This means it’s your best bet to protect you and your family against COVID-19 this fall and winter.

The bivalent booster is completely FREE and available to everyone 12 and older who has already gotten their first two vaccine shots. You can get your booster shot today, and I encourage everyone who is eligible to get yours as soon as possible!

Not sure where to get a booster shot? Doctors’ offices, healthcare clinics, and pharmacies are all providing the shot at no cost. You can use the city’s vaccine finder website or vaccines.gov. And Walgreens and CVS let you schedule a shot through their websites.

It’s also important to highlight that this new booster is safe. It meets FDA and CDC’s rigorous safety, effectiveness, and manufacturing quality standards. And it can help us prevent the virus from spreading rapidly throughout our community and city, which could save us from experiencing a surge in cases this fall and winter like we saw last year.

My office is currently hard at work putting together our annual Fall Family Health Fair at Kosciuszko Park, where we vaccinated over 230 neighbors against COVID and the flu last year, and hope to reach even more this year. Keep an eye out for more details soon!

Thanks, be well, and stay safe—

Will
