Seven of My Bills Passed Committee Last week! ๐Ÿ“œ

Dear Friend,

Last Friday was "committee deadline week," meaning it was the last day to pass new bills in House committees for this legislative session. (There are always exceptions to this deadline โ€” it's more of a general rule!)

During deadline week, I was able to pass several important pieces of legislation out of committee. Here's a brief summary of several of them:

Insulin Bill (HB 2189): Caps insulin co-pays at $35 a month for people who buy their health insurance on the exchange.

The Freelance Isn't Free Act (HB 1122): Guarantees timely pay to freelancers and provides them protection from discrimination.

Charter School Union Neutrality (HB 1120): Charter operators can't provide anti-union propaganda to their employees who are organizing.

Employer Accountability for Gender Violence (HB 1363): If an employer knows its employee is committing sexual violence and does nothing to stop them, it can be held liable.

Death Penalty Language (HB 3762): Removes all language referring to the death penalty from Illinois statutes.

IDOC Autopsies (HB 3315): An autopsy must be ordered and made publicly available if someone dies while incarcerated in an Illinois Department of Corrections institution.

Attorney Fees (HB 3314): Helps consumers get legal representation against debt collectors by allowing attorneyโ€™s fees for defendants.

Next, we'll call the bills in the House chamber. If we can get a 60-vote majority in support, the bill goes over to the Senate, and then to the Governor for a signature.

The deadline for that is in a few weeks, so I'll be sure to share more updates on these bills as they get voted on.

In the meantime, if you have questions about a bill I'm sponsoring or are curious to learn more about a particular issue, I want to hear from you! Use the buttons below to explore the bills I'm championing and share your thoughts, questions, and feedback as we work our way through the legislative session.

Take care,

Representative Will Guzzardi,

39th District
