A Renewed Focus on Environmental Protections ♻️

Dear Neighbor,

With the arrival of spring comes a renewed focus on the importance of protecting our environment. You may remember me writing about the success of the Climate and Equitable Jobs Act last year, one of the most important pieces of legislation I've voted on in my career. But there’s still a lot more work to be done!

That’s why I recently introduced House Bill 1847, which bans the use of pretreated seeds in the production of ethanol in order to protect our state from an environmental catastrophe. I introduced this bill in response to a terrible incident that unfolded in Nebraska when a new ethanol plant moved into a rural town. This ethanol plant had the novel idea of using leftover seeds, rather than corn or another plant, to make fuel. But due to the fact that nearly all industrial seeds in the U.S. are coated with a layer of pesticide, harsh chemicals contaminated the factory’s liquid and solid byproducts, leading to a public health and environmental disaster for the surrounding community.

In addition to working on legislation that protects our environment, I’ll also be hosting a local Document Shredding & Recycling Day on April 9th at Avondale-Logandale Elementary School, and I’d love to see you all there! See the flyer below for more information.

Take care,

Will
