Chicago Park District’s Silver Skates Speed Skating Contest
The following is from the Park District’s site. To sign up and learn more, go to https://www.chicagoparkdistrict.com/silver-skates?fbclid=IwAR2F9TaNCLB219egFQTWzlqyf1mBQQLFBmp5WsNf8bEU_CXoqDXDU_ZOFN0
Silver Skates is an annual speed skating competition for children age 6 and up and adults. Six events take place at neighborhood ice rinks from January 7 - 21. Check-in begins at 5:15 pm for each event.
The format of this year's events will be different from past years. An “open competition” is in effect for this year, where participants will skate on their own for their time once they've registered and checked-in. Times will be compared and results will be sent out after each event occurs. Medals will be awarded for the first-place finisher in each age/gender group. The change in format is to help ensure the safety of all participants and compliance of the State of Illinois COVID guidelines. We look forward to having the actual races back next year.
Advance online registration is encouraged, by clicking the related event's Register Now button below. Onsite registration is available the day of the meet, beginning at 5:15 pm. Registration will be taken on a first-come, first-served basis to the first 20 participants from each age group and gender. All participants under the age of 18 MUST have a parent or guardian register them in order to participate.
Participants must wear gloves, long sleeves, and a bicycle or hockey helmet to participate. Figure skates, hockey skates, or speed skates must be worn at all times. Skates will be available free of charge at each event.
